Volunteering
Volunteering is at the heart of every credit union. The Board of Directors of every credit union is drawn from members who have the skills and knowledge to lead and manage the credit union. They give freely of their time to develop and enhance the services of their credit union.
In return for helping out, credit union volunteers are afforded the opportunity to;
Become responsible for directing the affairs of a local business
Gain new skills and experience with a professional financial services provider
Enhance personal development through targeted training programmes
Increase career prospects by adding a valuable achievement to CVs
Meet like-minded people from the community
Know that they have helped the continued development of a professional service which benefits the entire community
Volunteering with the credit union usually takes up a few hours each month.

If you feel like you have the skills and knowledge to help lead and manage the credit union then a place on our Board of Directors could be right for you.
Supervisory Committee
The role of the supervisory committee is to ensure that the duties of the officers of the credit union are properly carried out and fulfilled.
Other Roles
There are many different roles available within the credit union. We are always looking for people who may be able to help out. If you feel like you have skills that could be valuable to us, get in touch and we would be glad to hear from you.

What do you currently do?
I am currently the retired Principal of Grange Primary School. My main pastimes are walking. I have bben a member of the Mourne Rambling Group since 1976 and have walked over all the Mourne Mountains on numerous occasions as well as expeditions throughout Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
What is your role within Kilkeel Credit Union?
I am currently a member of the Supervisory Committee in Kilkeel Credit Union, a role i have held since 1972. Along with one other voluntering member we carry out the role of Internal Auditors. The work is challenging but very satisfying and we feel we are giving back something to the Credit Union which has given us so much.
What do you get from your role within Kilkeel Credit Unon?
From my role in the Credit Union I get great satisfaction. It also gives me something to do with all the free time I have since I retired.

What do you currently do?
I have worked in the financial services sector for over 25 years, focusing primarily in risk management, regulatory compliance and governance. I currently provide consultancy, training and governance services to a range of businesses and sectors.
What is your role within Kilkeel Credit Union?
I am a director on the Board of Kilkeel Credit Union, I hold the position of treasurer and I also serve on the Marketing, Risk, Compliance and Investment Committees.
What do you get from your Role in Kilkeel Credit Union?
My involvement with Kilkeel Credit Union has provided a range of opportunities to integrate with and serve the local community. it has also provided opportunities to enrich my knowledge and network both professionally and personally. it feels good to be part of an organisation which has at its core, serving its members and the wider community. the ethos is very much founded on pricciples of financial inclusion, co-operation and self-help and these align with my own values. It;s nice to give back and feel you are doing something good for the community.
Anything else you would like to add?
I’d really encourage anyone in the community to volunteer if they can – whether as a board member or in another capacity for example, on one of our committees. Sometimes people don’t think they have the nescessary skills or knowledge to add value – but they can be surprised, more often than not. The Credit Union welcomes and benefits from a diverse range of volunteers. People with a variety of work and life experiences can add value to the Credit Union and get a lot out of doing so, in return – learning, awareness, personal development and a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment from their contribution – to name but a few. Younger members of our community can also benefit greatly by getting involved and enhancing their CV, their learning experiences and their community engagement.
